<br /><br />
It all started on Thursday, October 2nd. I had taken the day off work in order to accompany Grace on a Field Trip. The trip was scheduled to start around 10:30 and I had an hour or so free between a dentist appointment and having to be at school. I debated what to do with my time and decided to start with Starbucks. While I was in line I got a call from her school. Grace wasn't feeling well.<br />
<br /><br />
When I arrived at school I discovered that she had a fever and was feeling awful. She complained that while singing in chapel her vision when black, her ears started ringing, and she felt both hot and cold at once. Her teacher elaborated that her face went white and then green. By the time I had Grace at home her fever was 103.<br />
<br /><br />
Friday we went to the doctor and her lungs were clear. We were told to wait it out. She would likely peak on Sunday, feel better on Monday and should expect to go to school on Tuesday.<br />
<br /><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">Friends and family were praying for Grace and she was getting better over the weekend. Monday Grampa</span> stayed with her and she seemed to be well on her way to recovery. Sometime Monday night or Tuesday morning that trend changed. By Wednesday she was worse than ever and I was praying.<br />
<br /><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">Wednesday we went to the doctor and discovered it has progressed to Pneumonia. Praise God the diagnosis resulted in a prescription for strong antibiotics and a clear path for recovery.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;">After a week and a half of illness, Grace was finally well enough to go to school on Monday, October 13th.</span><br />
<br /><br />
The 11 days Grace was home gave me many moments to pray for her health and recovery, to offer praises for modern medicine, and to be so grateful for a boss that understands that my family needs me. David didn't hesitate when I let him know that I was going to do my best to work from home for the duration of Grace's illness. Thankfully I chose a career that allows me to work from home and that has flexibility to work the hours that are possible in any given week.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-58974328909385057132014-09-27T22:00:00.001-07:002014-09-27T22:00:57.871-07:00Children's Museum<div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Each year the Smithsonian sponsors a Day at the Museum where people can get free admission to a participating museum. </span></div><div>Last year was the first time I had heard of the program and I took advantage of free tickets to the Sonoma Coubty Air & Apace Museum. It is tiny but the kids enjoyed it. I was very grateful for the Smithsonian's program because without it I never would have thought of taking the kids to this museum. I<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">t is only a few miles from our house and it is home to of the first planes to repond to the 9-11 attacks. </span></div><div><br></div><div>This year I opted for the Bay Area Discovry Museum in Sausalito. I never could have chosen such a wonderful partner on my own. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I am so blessed to have an amazing man who always puts me first. He loves me, provides for me, encourages me, builds me up and makes me my best. I am honored to be his wife. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Recently I commented to a co-worker that I don't mind driving to Oakville once or twice a week because I can often sneak in a lunch with my husband when I'm there. She was amazed that I would look forward to having lunch with him since we love together and see each other everyday. I can honestly say I do. I think about him throughout the day, wonder how he is doing and long to just talk to him or see him. I even like driving by his office and knowing he is just up the road. It is a little sappy, but I love that after 18 years of marriage he still makes me feel special. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This weekend we celebrated with a fancy dinner, breakfast at his favorite diner, champagne tasting and dinner with the family. Today was a lazy day of errands, laundry, ice cream and fantasy football. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">I love that we can be ourselves with each other, we enjoy our family together, and we are just as happy celebrating with left overs as with a 5 star restaurant. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F8bxu6UZt7c/VAXr2i9guEI/AAAAAAAAMwQ/BAQ13MzOSEI/s640/blogger-image--149195557.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-F8bxu6UZt7c/VAXr2i9guEI/AAAAAAAAMwQ/BAQ13MzOSEI/s640/blogger-image--149195557.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-1970306745317181092014-08-25T19:33:00.001-07:002014-08-26T21:43:30.332-07:00Chickens<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4g4HHw22P3U/U_1h8As1EGI/AAAAAAAAMuE/aHuwYkn-YQk/s640/blogger-image--2031096139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4g4HHw22P3U/U_1h8As1EGI/AAAAAAAAMuE/aHuwYkn-YQk/s640/blogger-image--2031096139.jpg"></a></div><br></div>I've always known my husband was a country boy at heart. What I didn't believe was that I am a country girl at heart too. <div><br></div><div>Jason and I have talked over the years about getting chickens. I thought it was something that Jason and the kids would like and I would tolerate. We discovered that WCAs 4th graders hatched chicken eggs so we decided to wait until Grace was in 4th Grade and get our chickens then. </div><div><br></div><div>This past spring Mrs. Manukian's 4th grade class was given 40 eggs to incubate and hatch. In the end they had less than a dozen baby chicks. Mrs. Manukian purchases enough baby chicks so that each class member had one chick for the chick Olympics. </div><div><br></div><div>On "going home day" Grace was lucky enough to get 5 baby chicks, 3 were hatched by the class and 2 were purchases. </div><div><br></div><div>We set them up in a brooder (plastic box) in the garage with a heat lamp, watered and feeder. It didn't get done before we brought the chicks home and I started feeling anxious that it needed to be done so the chicks would have a home. My life is also crazy, loud, busy, full of love, tickles, snuggles and exasperation. I never imagined myself as a mom of four, but now I can't imagine my life any other way. <div><br></div><div>This weekend is the annual opening day of deer season, so I am a single mom. Now that Cooper is 6.5 years old he gets to go to deer camp with Jason. </div><div><br></div><div>I hate having Jason gone, but I do sure love having a little time alone with my littles. I treat these weekends as "free weekends" and have as much fun with the kids as I can and let chores (and good nutrition) fall to the wayside. </div><div><br></div><div>So far this weekend Henry has cooked dinner both nights. Friday was pizza bread.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-22_tvHjK-lg/U-bVIWUY0MI/AAAAAAAAMp0/HbuB4dAve2I/s640/blogger-image--838574746.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-22_tvHjK-lg/U-bVIWUY0MI/AAAAAAAAMp0/HbuB4dAve2I/s640/blogger-image--838574746.jpg"></a></div> Saturday was nachos. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_RrgHhjs1ac/U-bVMLFNl4I/AAAAAAAAMqM/rP5oCxsD9u8/s640/blogger-image-621985222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_RrgHhjs1ac/U-bVMLFNl4I/AAAAAAAAMqM/rP5oCxsD9u8/s640/blogger-image-621985222.jpg"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_RrgHhjs1ac/U-bVMLFNl4I/AAAAAAAAMqM/rP5oCxsD9u8/s640/blogger-image-621985222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-L9pjCM8kcXk/U-bVJoSbU4I/AAAAAAAAMp8/R6XXwEj0508/s640/blogger-image-1015403320.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-L9pjCM8kcXk/U-bVJoSbU4I/AAAAAAAAMp8/R6XXwEj0508/s640/blogger-image-1015403320.jpg"></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-L9pjCM8kcXk/U-bVJoSbU4I/AAAAAAAAMp8/R6XXwEj0508/s640/blogger-image-1015403320.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9OHaG8jk_fQ/U-bU4Mq88cI/AAAAAAAAMps/RJhM7Cg9Fpw/s640/blogger-image-817780388.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9OHaG8jk_fQ/U-bU4Mq88cI/AAAAAAAAMps/RJhM7Cg9Fpw/s640/blogger-image-817780388.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">He loves to cook or really help in any way. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We also had doughnuts today, went to Target and got stuff for Grace's birthday party next week, and then went bowling. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Henry has been asking to go bowling all summer. Each of these activities has a huge buildup each year. The kids ask for days (sometimes even weeks) when they are finally going to get to do it. When the day finally comes I get questioned hourly "is it time? Is it time yet?". <br />
<br />
Today was that day for Easter Egg dying. The kids were excited. I didn't feel there enthusiasm. Added to my dread was the fact that Henry is only 1.5 years old and we had a two child to one parent ratio. Grammie and Grampa usually take part in the traditions with us but they had a special 50th birthday party to go to tonight. <br />
It started in a blur as the kids filled their cups with dye. Henry tried to eat one of his and ended up with blue lips after Emma fished it out of his mouth. Then we finally got ready to dye the eggs and Cooper dropped his first one on the floor. Henry threw each of his into the cups. When Henry tried to get his first one out we ended up with green dye all over the kitchen table. Then he tried to eat the first one. Then soon after Cooper spilled two of his cups on the table. He said it was okay since he was done with those colors. <br />
In the end with wound up with 15 or so beautiful eggs and four happy kids. I guess that is all that matters, right?<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eKf9Gc2wCOk/T4D0_tjMwyI/AAAAAAAAMOg/TbiJq9EEF4w/s640/blogger-image--2127688957.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eKf9Gc2wCOk/T4D0_tjMwyI/AAAAAAAAMOg/TbiJq9EEF4w/s640/blogger-image--2127688957.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jQPRefh4NcE/T4D1AiNz5OI/AAAAAAAAMOo/rY7UAV4NzYY/s640/blogger-image-385247365.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-jQPRefh4NcE/T4D1AiNz5OI/AAAAAAAAMOo/rY7UAV4NzYY/s640/blogger-image-385247365.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8CPtBUSm6Cc/T4D1BWQJOFI/AAAAAAAAMOw/LAW2sGiVRZk/s640/blogger-image--123293633.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-8CPtBUSm6Cc/T4D1BWQJOFI/AAAAAAAAMOw/LAW2sGiVRZk/s640/blogger-image--123293633.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Peng_Lb8MjQ/T4D1CSSuNPI/AAAAAAAAMO4/0k0t4yqTWEw/s640/blogger-image-592256815.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Peng_Lb8MjQ/T4D1CSSuNPI/AAAAAAAAMO4/0k0t4yqTWEw/s640/blogger-image-592256815.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mxyQB-RW_2Y/T4D1DJ6u23I/AAAAAAAAMPA/Kk9X-PwL3NE/s640/blogger-image--1546381591.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-mxyQB-RW_2Y/T4D1DJ6u23I/AAAAAAAAMPA/Kk9X-PwL3NE/s640/blogger-image--1546381591.jpg" /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-56914890325250971792012-03-09T07:49:00.000-08:002012-03-09T08:49:59.664-08:00Just One ThingSomeone in my moms group recently asked, "if you could only teach your children one thing, what would it be?"<br />
<br />
There were some great responses that I could identify with but none of them were all encompassing enough. Sure I would love for my kids to be happy, and confident, and self-sufficient, and to know Jesus but I want more than that for them. <br />
<br />
What first popped into my head and what still is repeating in my head is the Golden Rule. Matthew 7:12 <em>So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.</em> I want them to be kind to others just as they would want others to be kinds to them. I want them to be respectful of others just as they would want others to respect them. I want them to give others the benefit of the doubt, to show gentleness and patience. I want them to be helpful and considerate. I hope they are humble, grateful, and willing to serve those less fortunate. I want them to be loving and joyful and considerate.<br />
<br />
As I list out all of the qualities I wish for them which I think fall into the Golden Rule it reminds me of the "Fruits of the Spirit". Galatians 5:22-23 tells us <em>"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."</em> These are the qualities I wish for my children. I pray nightly for my children to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I know that I can't force the qualities on my children I can only pray that the Holy Spirit fills them with these qualities, and I know that if they are filled with these qualities then by default they will treat others the way they would want to be treated.<br />
<br />
Some key scriptures that I pray they will learn, understand and exhibit:<br />
<br />
Matthew 25:40 <em>‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’</em> ~ Serve the less fortunate. Honor all people. Don't judge a book by its cover. Remember that all people were made in the image of God and are valued. It is what you do when no one is watching that is the true measure of your intentions.<br />
<em></em><br />
<br />
Colossians 3:23-24 <em>Whatever you do, do your work heartily, <sup class="xref" value="(<a href="#cen-NASB-29541C" title="See cross-reference C">C</a>)">as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of <sup class="xref" value="(<a href="#cen-NASB-29542E" title="See cross-reference E">E</a>)">the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you <sup class="xref" value="(<a href="#cen-NASB-29542F" title="See cross-reference F">F</a>)">serve.</em> ~ Do your best in everything you do. Do everything as if God, your friends, you mother, your Grandmother were watching. If you wouldn't act that way to your teacher, principal, Pastor Lance, don't act they way to me, your father, or your siblings.<br />
<br />
Proverbs 3:5-6 <em>Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. ~</em> If you don't know what is right or what to do, pray about it. Think back on your Bible teachings. What would Jesus do? <br />
<br />
1 John 2:15-16 <em>Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. ~</em> Be <strong>in </strong>the world but not <strong>of</strong> the world. Walk the narrow path to Jesus, salvation, everlasting life, don't be caught up in the world and it (lack of) values. Don't follow the broad road that leads to sin and damnation.<br />
<br />
<br />
Sometimes it is overwhelming to wonder how I am going to raise these four precious children that God has entrusted to my care. When I think it is too much I remember: <em>I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~</em> Philippians 4:13<br /><br /><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-8281969503553759312012-03-07T10:35:00.002-08:002012-03-07T10:35:29.760-08:00Top Secret Personal BeeswaxBeing a working mom is HARD... especially with school aged kids. They do so many fun things during the day and it is disappointing for both of us when Mom can't be there to join in. <br />
<br />
That I why I make a concerted effort to attend as many things as possible. I try to go to just about every soccer and basketball game. When I have to miss one I make sure Daddy, Grammie or Grampa is there. I go to Girl Scout events, ballet recitals and special plays, concerts and performances. <br />

I also try to go on at least one field trip with each child each year. Last Friday was my turn to go with Grace. I went with her class to see a Junie B Jones play. I had seen an earlier version of the play with Emma Jo when she was in 2nd grade. Just like that time I was engrossed in the play. It was quite fun to see how many characters there were in the play with just a handful of actors. It was also great fun to remember all of the stories from reading them with Emma. It made me realize that I need to dig them out of boxes so that Grace can read them before she is too old to enjoy them.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-72911104451656177642012-02-22T08:40:00.000-08:002012-02-25T09:42:48.221-08:00Cha-Cha-ChaEach Tuesday night we have a mad scramble in our house, especially now that basketball is in full swing. This past fall, Emma Jo started taking ballroom dance lessons at 7pm each Tuesday. It has become a tradition at our school for the 7th and 8th graders to participate in Nordquist dance in Santa Rosa.<br />
This is the first year that Emma is old enough and I was eager for her to participate. I think it is important to try as many new experiences as you can. You never know what you will love until you try it. At first she wasn't sure if she wanted to participate but soon it became "when can we go shopping for Nordquist dresses?". Thankfully Grammies was more than happy to help out with that request. <br />
<br />
I love that not only are the kids learning dances like the swing, Cha Cha, and waltz but they are also learning etiquette and manners. We are part of a car pool so I only get to go to watch every five weeks but the times I have gone there were lessons on walking a girl onto and off of the dance floor, standing when a woman approaches the dinner table, tying a necktie, helping a girl put on her coat and dressing in a way appropriate for the occasion. <br />
<br />
This week I was amazed to see how much the kids have learned in such a short amount of time. They were doing the night club two step and knew many moves and actually looked like they were dancing!<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-49723519843416874462012-02-21T08:29:00.000-08:002012-02-21T08:30:04.935-08:00Long weekends<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Long weekends are a mixed blessing. This past weekend was Presidents Day so we got Monday off. It was a very productive weekend. Saturday we cleaned the family room from floor to ceiling including moving all of the furniture, shaking out the rug and mopping all of the wood floor. We also got Lucy groomed, went to ballet and sold almost 150 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies (well Gracie did). We even squeezed in a trip to Starbucks and the park!</div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Sunday was church, a trip to the nursery for potatoes, and about ten loads of laundry before heading to Grammie's and Grampa's for dinner. </div>

<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
Monday we woke up and weren't quite sure what to do. I washed all the sheets and the towels. Went to Walmart and Safeway. Finished folding and putting away stragglers and watched Smash (my new favorite show!). Then I realized it was still only 3:00. I decided it was s perfect time to take the kids to the park. Emma want interested but the littles were game. </div>

We had gone to Keiser park in Saturday so Monday they opted for "Connie's" park. It wasn't quite as much fun as our trip on Saturday since we didn't run into any friends to chat with. But it is always fun to send time playing with the kids. </div>

By 6pm we were all beat. Three day weekends are nice for getting to spend time together and getting projects done. But by the end of the weekend we are all worn out and ready to get back to normal. I told Jason that next time we have a three day weekend we are getting pizza for dinner on the last night so that we can just relax. </div>

He was 23lb 12oz and 32.5" long. This is the 25th percent in weight and 50th percent in height. I didn't get the head circumference but it was in the 70th percentile. My conclusion was that he is long, lean and smart!<br /><br />He is growing and changing so quickly! He eats more food than any of his siblings. He is stubborn and opinionated. He demands his own way and is a bit if a bully. Henry has the cutest curls and an adorable smile. He is a love and a cutie. He has recently been learning an explosion of words and there is nothing more adorable than hearing him say "peas" or "dank u".<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-37764129144161260922011-12-14T09:35:00.000-08:002011-12-14T09:42:19.291-08:00It's Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas!I am so happy that I found my Christmas spirit this year! The last few years Christmas has felt like more of a chore than a choice and I <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_0" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">grudgingly</span> put up (some) decorations and tried to get into the spirit. Thankfully this year is different! I was ready for the tree Thanksgiving weekend! We put up lights on the outside of the house, decorated the inside of the house and we're even hosting our first Christmas party in years!<br /><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2HIRTEWDlsf7Ve8jRP6PDtMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-iFA2v9xhdDM/TtwcAqb050I/AAAAAAAAMCw/4_Les6W0eCA/s640/IMG_5181.JPG" width="429" height="640" /></a><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/aPka7UNT1--tXJBkAb-9NdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-OdSpW72yokY/TtwcBxHg2TI/AAAAAAAAMCE/LluDPqERcs4/s640/IMG_5177.JPG" width="426" height="640" /></a><br />Before we headed out to the Silver Oak Christmas Party I snapped these pictures of the kids. Last weekend (or was it the weekend before?), I took pictures of the kids dressed in their Holiday best as we got ready to head out to the Silver Oak Christmas party. The next day I downloaded the pictures to the computer. That was when I discovered that I still had pictures from carving pumpkins on the camera! I guess life as been a little crazy!<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/W_t9COmOztM73Q2xWnixSdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img of SummerIt is getting colder and colder here and I think I have to admit that summer is over. In fact, I'm probably going to have to put my flip-flops away and find some real shoes. (Maybe it is a good excuse to buy the new boots I've been eyeing.)<br /><br />Looking back through pictures, I discovered these that I never posted. As the summer was drawing to a close, we tried to get out into the fresh air in the evenings before the time change. We rediscovered the rope swing in the middle of our neighborhood.<br /><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vyQU2wuFKQdIL5mFZ6T6Wg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-IYMf02Pa2Wo/TpJfR3hjSbI/AAAAAAAAL8c/n0SiUu_Jqrg/s400/IMG_4426.JPG" width="268" height="400" /></a><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vw5JydYJKS3lG7C4IBP8gQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-MwgmRAb83Lk/TpJfTc0MS4I/AAAAAAAAL8g/Sc3fJdCiX5o/s400/IMG_4441.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/o-yQBkhxMVHNk4v0VDiJTg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-odzKuLxnAmg/TpJfUllxgaI/AAAAAAAAL8k/9lQkxzuWvvw/s400/IMG_4452.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-9NMFYw7sHnHpLs5ooo8nw?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9gkKKLQarEc/TpJfVz3icSI/AAAAAAAAL8o/jQ87ijoBT0s/s400/IMG_4459.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_a1FmDeoKDatpYlDGfq6EQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-aYWgcY7oZVU/TpJfXa4l68I/AAAAAAAAL8s/oHTHU56yYTM/s400/IMG_4460.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><br /><br />Everyone enjoyed it and like so many other things, it made me wonder why don't we do this more often? Of course, now with the cold weather, coming rain, and time change we will need to wait until spring before we can visit it again...<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-29772922898425246172011-11-07T16:31:00.000-08:002011-11-07T16:37:47.095-08:00A Knight, An Angel, a Masquerade Ball & a Monkey?<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/LkQSfXEDj-Qm-b8sE-uN4g?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-OxtjTGR7bsM/Tq6fmVd66VI/AAAAAAAAL60/yLWj-9uJuoY/s800/IMG_4918.JPG" width="800" height="534" /></a><br />We had quite an assortment of Halloween costumes this year. We did great the first half! But the 2nd half was another story. Cloverdale is always a tough opponent and they ran away with the game the 2nd half.<br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/y9njW7JQpNBNJPGg2AWnzA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/--vo4xPMBnrM/TpJfisYe_dI/AAAAAAAAL6E/nVSv8ZcSmpk/s400/IMG_4484.JPG" height="267" width="400" /></a><br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/WKaxJz156VNrsPcvUOE9pQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-1bIJ8FTloTk/TpJfkvIvA5I/AAAAAAAAL6I/Eo_ziXZvHCI/s400/IMG_4488.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/F_ojwl0VGVwLj4sTlDbswQ?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-U_Thz46KSoc/TpJfmJTq4aI/AAAAAAAAL6M/Tv5ImFCEEc0/s400/IMG_4489.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/24Isnt2hMD7u-ltAFHaW6w?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EhPgNtdevro/TpJfq1W-mII/AAAAAAAAL6Y/7NEZ7ysaVPc/s400/IMG_4504.JPG" width="400" height="266" /></a><br /><br />Cooper made sure to put on plenty of sunscreen.<br /><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/XfbGYW_R2ReQ-zvK-Z1NOg?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-nv6WPanVigA/TpJfpcn3bBI/AAAAAAAAL6U/_71USNjGMtQ/s400/IMG_4493.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Jj0NrhS9I_9iCMyBQt6lsA?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-O3H6TwSarw4/TpJfoI-5zFI/AAAAAAAAL6Q/lu86DIqDrk8/s400/IMG_4494.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-49816472038121651102011-10-08T20:25:00.001-07:002011-10-08T21:04:16.387-07:00What Happened to September?What happened to September. The month was a blur. The kids are firmly settled in school. Emma has started soccer. Gracie is a brownie. Cooper is loving being an Owl. And Henry is still not sleeping!<br /><br />School started the Wednesday after we got home from Santa Cruz. Gracie is in the 2nd Grade, Emma is in 7th and Cooper is an Owl.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/R2sdMRqCmwMWjwjCaQvliHpeZ_6LmW_zdtGu8kHrA-8?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-VjLnnmXdEzA/Tkv6zd53m4I/AAAAAAAAL0g/_LiRAzTvBs0/s400/IMG_4267.JPG" width="266" height="400" /></a></p><br />Mrs. Williams is Gracie's teacher. I am very excited to have her as a teacher. Emma Jo had her for part of the day in 2nd and I've always been impressed with how calm she is. She works in the nursery at least one weekend a month and she and her husband have lavish loved on each of the boys while they have been in the nursery. She is also part of a prayer group at school and she prayed for us throughout Henry's pregnancy.<br /><br />This is Emma's 2nd year in Jr. High. She has the same primary teacher. Her class is a combo class with the 6th graders but they have many core classes separate. She is studying History, Math, English, Science, Computers, Spanish, Latin, and Bible. This year we have new teachers for Spanish, Computer and History. I'm very happy that Emma is experiencing multiple teachers each day. I hope it prepares her for High School in a couple of years. I'm leaning towards public High School and I pray that it isn't too hard of a transition.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/xICp6XmYqKuCjckBxa1-5npeZ_6LmW_zdtGu8kHrA-8?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-dwlB0-dHPmc/Tkv63uB0-II/AAAAAAAAL0o/cN9td7KiZ2g/s400/IMG_4277.JPG" width="400" height="265" /></a></p><br />Cooper is an Owl this year. His teacher is Ms. Anderson who is the sister of his assistant teacher last year. He is in a small class with 7 boys and 2 girls. He seems to be thriving and he can spell his name!<br /><br />Henry started walking just after his 1st birthday and now he is running everywhere. He learned how to tackle and wrestle while we were in Santa Cruz. Now it is very common to hear Jason and I telling him to "be nice to your brother, don't tackle your sister!" He loves them but he isn't gentle. One of Henry's favorite ways to express his love is to sit on your head.<br /><br /><br /><p align="center"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RmwMGMMx1FUHQGO2IoRkzXpeZ_6LmW_zdtGu8kHrA-8?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Cg-frXim5LE/Tkv61o1RjAI/AAAAAAAALvk/f1cM7c96Zj0/s400/IMG_4271.JPG" width="400" height="267" /></a></p><br />Emma Jo is now fully engulfed in Soccer. She is playing for Coach Rob again on the Red Thunder. He is a great coach and she is really enjoying the season. Emma plays multiple positions but usually plays either Attacking Mid or Goalie. She also plays Defending Mid, Full Back and even played Forward last week. She is becoming very skilled at controlling the ball and not panicking under pressure. Emma has a great kick and can boot the ball past half field on Goal Kicks. I am really enjoying watching her play. Last Saturday Emma's game was at 7pm under the lights. It was very exciting game and made me hope that she might like to play for Windsor High in a couple of years.<br /><br />Gracie is in her 3rd year of Girl Scouts, this year as a Brownie. She is also doing ballet this year after a two year absence. She is loving both, especially Brownies with Rhoda. Last weekend was "Fall Encampment" for girl scouts and Grace go to go to Cazadero with Rhoda and 6 other girls from her troop. They left Friday evening and didn't return until just before lunch on Sunday. Grace had a great time and I don't think she missed us at all. Cooper on the other hand continually asked when we were going to pick up Grace. They are great playmates and Cooper was bored without his "girlie".<br /><br />Life can be a little overwhelming with four children. I've been swamped at work and have started going to Oakville 1 or 2 days a week. This just adds to the chaos of multiple after-school activities each week. To top it off, Henry still doesn't sleep. In fact he has become a worse sleeper over the past month. He used to go to sleep around 8pm, wake for a snack around midnight, another snack around 3am and then up for the day around 6am. It wasn't ideal but it was okay. Then he started waking around 11:30pm and not going back to sleep until after 1:30am. After a couple of weeks of that, Jason decided to step in. Now thankfully Jason puts him to bed 4-5 nights a week. It is tough on Jason but so nice for me after 13+ nights of taking him to bed every single night. Now I have the option to unwind a little in the evenings and I even have gone to a few women's events at church. I pray that someday soon Henry will start sleeping and that we can encourage it without forcing him.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><script expr:src='"http://feeds.feedburner.com/~s/TwoPrincessesOneDude?i=" + data:post.url' type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script></div>Trishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00093920440884562842noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2628057425170550846.post-51369650983988764432011-08-22T11:35:00.000-07:002011-09-01T17:00:33.142-07:00It only takes a second!<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j8W_2HdpCms/Tl1V-j-jRzI/AAAAAAAAL1c/D4BgcIHJBvE/s1600/Henry%2Bat%2BChildrens%2B8-20-11.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5646764041090320178" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j8W_2HdpCms/Tl1V-j-jRzI/AAAAAAAAL1c/D4BgcIHJBvE/s320/Henry%2Bat%2BChildrens%2B8-20-11.jpg" /></a>
<br />Friday evening Henry fell off the kitchen counter and fractured his skull. I feel like a terrible mother, and so so guilty. I knew he shouldn't be up there, but he is such a crab when I set him on the ground to get anything done. I'd gotten in the habit of setting him on the counter right in front of me when I'm working on something in the kitchen. Friday had been a long day. I got home from work late, Jason didn't feel well, the other kids were watching TV and the kitchen was a mess. I just wanted to pick up a bit so that I could get dinner started.
<br />
<br />I set him on the counter and turned my back for a second to throw something in the trash. In that second I heard aloud THUD. I turned around and found Henry laying flat on his back. I picked him up and tried to sooth him. He almost immediately vomited. A friends daughter had a skull injury earlier this summer and I learned from her that vomiting was a very bad sign.
<br />
<br />I took Henry to the ER and after an hour was finally seen by a doctor. The doctor had told me that I should just go home and "observe" him for 24 hours. I insisted that something wasn't right and I wanted testing. She relented and ordered a CT scan. After another hour and half we finally had the test and knew he had a skull fracture. Thankfully the skull hadn't moved and it appeared he was fine, but the decision was made to transport Henry to Oakland Children's Hospital via ambulance for further evaluation.
<br />
<br />Oakland Children's Hospital ER was amazing! We immediately had several doctors, nurses, and surgeons <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_8" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">evaluating</span> Henry. We were admitted for overnight observation. It was the longest night of my life, and a very trying day, but in the end it was determined that Henry was fine. Because the skull did not move there was no brain injury, bleeding or swelling. The fracture in itself isn't dangerous. We now have to watch him and try to prevent him from further injuring the skull for at least a month. After that time he should be good as new, as if nothing happened to him.
