My Dad

My dad's most favorite thing is his family. He was the most excited about anyone when he found out about the little bean. He delights in his grandchildren and will use any excuse to spend time with them. We have dinner together every Sunday but he often finds excuses to see the kids another time during the week.
One of his other favorite things is growing things. I'm sure this is why he became a farmer.

To finish off the Gimme Five celebration on Memorial Day weekend, Dad got all of the grandkids to plant pumpkin seeds in the garden. It has become a tradition for Grampa to provide personalized pumpkins for each of the grandkids (and other special kids too). The past couple of years the Gimme Five have been involved in the planting. I think this is the best merging of Dad's two loves.

When all of the pumpkin seeds were planted the boys wanted to plant more so Grampa got out the tomato starters and let them help with those as well.

Carving Pumpkins

I'm not sure who had more fun carving pumpkins on Friday night, Grampa or the kids. I knew he loved growing pumpkins. What I didn't know was that he loves carving them also.

There are only 3 carved pumpkins, I just couldn't hold the camera steady, sorry.

The Great Pumpkin Harvest

As usual, on Sunday we had dinner at Grammie and Grampa's house. The special treat this week was the pumpkins! They were ready to be harvested and on display.
Most of the pumpkins were "too heaby" according to Cooper, but this one was just right.
Grace made a big show of picking and carrying her pumpkin.
Grampa had already spend a lot of time and effort to display most of the pumpkins in front of the newest "old truck", but Cooper helped add the finishing touches.

Pumpkins

This past weekend we picked our pumpkins from Grampa's Pumpkin patch. As I was looking through the photos I remembered posting last years pumpkin photos on this blog. That made me realize I started this blog over one year ago! I can't believe that I missed that milestone! When I started it last September I had no idea how it would go, if I'd remember to post and if anyone would read it. Now, just over a year later, I don't always remember to post and I don't know if anyone reads it, but I love having this blog. It makes me happy to know that the kids have a recording of their childhood, complete with pictures and even some videos.

Here are the pictures from this weekend's adventure in Grampa Pumpkin Patch.

Here is a flashback to last year's pumpkins:

Carving Pumpkins & Vince Gill

Last night, Grammie and Grampa came over for pumpkin carving for Halloween. Each of the girls drew their jack-o-lantern faces all by themselves. This year was only the first or second time that Emma Jo was willing to get her hands dirty and reach inside the pumpkin to scoop out the guts. Grace wasn't up for that adventure and requested gloves. We didn't have any gloves so she recruited Daddy and Grampa to help her.

Cooper was more interested in trying to eat his pumpkin.

After pumpkin carving was over, Jason and I went to see Vince Gill perform an acoustical concert. Although it was a long, late night, we had a great time. He gave a great performance with lots of stories about his family and his songs. Many thanks to Grammie and Grampa who came and watched the kids while we had a night out.
